Jewel for a beard.

This Jewel with diamonds called ‘Diogenes’, is a design which finds its fundamentals in the ancient history. Inspired by the jewellery used by Egyptian Pharaohs to decorate their beards, a contemporary design was created. The final shape was determined by the person of the philosopher Diogenes.
These two important historical milestones are representing ‘status’ and ‘Ratio’. The divine powers of the pharaoh with his ceremonial jewels are accentuated and linked through the beard and its ‘frontal’ approach.
A whole lot later, we find in Diogenes another aspect of this jewel for beards. Diogenes -always with a beard- was an important philosopher and he was representing the thought of ‘soberness’. In this design both historical aspects are melted into a contemporary design which represents both ‘status’ and ‘serenity’.

These two words are reflected in the choice of materials (iron, gold, diamonds). The combination with the material and a firm design give the bearded bearer a very personal and obstinate look which will force respect - without any doubt ! This closes the circle with the historical background and it amplifies the idea : through pure soberness, power is radiated.

This jewel design is a part of the exhibition : ‘Men Seduced – contemporary jewels for men’, museum of Diamonds, Antwerp- Belgium
